Education in NZ
New Zealand places great emphasis on the role of education in society, and schooling is compulsory for all children aged between six and 16. Education for children is provided for free by the state, and pre-school education is also partially funded, with over 90% of children in New Zealand enrolled in pre-school education programmes.
New Zealand's standards of higher education are similarly high, with a third of the country holding tertiary qualifications. The New Zealand education system has an excellent international reputation, and increasing numbers of international students come from overseas to complete their studies in New Zealand.
Tertiary education is also partially funded by the government, and a student loan scheme is available which allows students to borrow funds for their education. Allowances are also available to assist students whilst they study.
